Materials used for shaker style cabinets are quality types of woods like maple, cherry, quartersawn oak and hickory. In terms of the finishes, shaker style cabinets are typically left raw and in their natural wood finish. However, the finishing of shaker style cabinets can be modified according to the prevailing style of the home.
Glazed kitchen cabinets come in two forms. First, is a pre-glazed kitchen door which is already ready made and finished, while the other one would still include self application of a store bought glaze. The glazing process involves painting or staining the cabinet first, and then allowing it to cte for some time. Once the paint or stain has dried, a thin coat of glaze is applied over the cabinet door, using a brush, and then the excess is wiped. The glaze is then allowed to cure and once fully dried, a top coat of polyurethane is added.
