The farmhouse kitchen style evokes country comfort, natural coziness and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It is also often associated with the word “rustic” because of its raw, natural appeal and charm. Generally, farmhouse style kitchens are geared towards a “down home” theme. (See our gallery of farmhouse kitchen cabinets here). Natural materials are one of the primary elements of the Farmhouse style, with that in mind, Farmhouse kitchen cabinets are dominantly made up of quality hardwood like maple, cherry, oak and pine. Pine is a popular choice for farmhouse kitchen cabinets because its knotty appearance exudes a rustic vibe.
Cabinet doors are the components which you use to close and open the cabinets or storage systems, while the drawer fronts pertain to faces of the drawers. Just like the frame, these components are also made up of solid wood and must have a thickness of at least ¾ inches. Cabinet doors and drawer fronts are also made up of rails and stiles that have a thickness of ½ inches to 3 inches. These rails and stiles make up the cabinet door frame which holds the center panel in place. The cabinet door center panel material and design varies depending on the overall style of the cabinet.
