Hickory – Hickory has a similar graining pattern to oak, but its color is lighter. This type of wood is characterized by a natural creamy, pale yellow color. Although it can be stained, hickory is better treated with a clear stain or natural varnish in order to highlight its distinct blond tones. When it comes to strength, hickory is comparable to oak. It is a popular choice for rustic inspired kitchens and is typically used for custom and semi custom kitchen cabinets.
Pine – Pine is a type of softwood that ad a pale yellow color. It is the only species of soft wood that is used for kitchen cabinetry. Unlike hardwoods, pine easily dents but it is often pressure treated to reinforce its strength and quality. Common species of pine used for kitchen cabinetry are Eastern white pine and Western white pine. Pine can be stained to achieve a different color and its unique appearance includes knots. Pine kitchen cabinets are often used for settings which have a traditional character and country flair.
