The retro kitchen style is a mix of decades of old styles and it is influenced by the trends in the past. In essence, retro style kitchens are like “throwbacks” which generally evoke a nostalgic feel. It sometimes reminds us of a “diner like” ambiance. Retro kitchen cabinets are the perfect marriage of classic flair and contemporary vibe. It also puts emphasis on a sturdy build and functionality. The most popular design for retro kitchen cabinets are mid century modern. This kitchen cabinet style is characterized by a sleek appearance, streamline design, angular lines and geometric forms. The design is more seamless, plain and simple. And just like the modern style, it does not make use of ornamentation such as decorative details, mouldings, cornices or carvings. Materials may either be solid wood, laminate or veneers. Colors and finishes for mid century retro kitchen cabinets include light to medium stained woods.
This l-shaped white kitchen with dark floors uses a very light finish on the kitchen cabinets, carcass & counters to make the kitchen appear lighter, allowing you to combine it with more modern pieces of furniture and accessories. If clean/plain white finishes is not your cup of tea, you can also use a more rustic white color to give it a more aged appeal. In this example, the beadboard cabinets were given a grayish undertone to match the wooden panels used on the ceiling of the kitchen.
