This traditional-style kitchen, with its raised panel cream-colored cabinetry and glass-mullioned shelves is bathed in a warm, golden light thanks to the warm white under cabinet lighting installed. Besides the beautiful glow it causes, under cabinet lighting is effective in lighting up task-heavy spaces on the black granite countertops. The small brown porcelain tiles for the backsplash are also used for the floor, and the large center kitchen island with hanging range hood provides a lot of space for cooking, food preparation, and even socialization.
This classic kitchen in the picture above features beautifully carved wood panel cabinets painted in cream. The large kitchen island even features beautifully engraved Corinthian columns at its corners and is topped by a Crema Marfil stone countertop and a large candle chandelier with rose ceiling detail. The French doors to the side bring in the beautiful winter scenery and the cool tones of the snow are warmed down by the cream-colored stone floor tiles and smaller cut cream stone mosaic tiles for the backsplash.
The retro kitchen style is a mix of decades of old styles and it is influenced by the trends in the past. In essence, retro style kitchens are like “throwbacks” which generally evoke a nostalgic feel. It sometimes reminds us of a “diner like” ambiance. Retro kitchen cabinets are the perfect marriage of classic flair and contemporary vibe. It also puts emphasis on a sturdy build and functionality. The most popular design for retro kitchen cabinets are mid century modern. This kitchen cabinet style is characterized by a sleek appearance, streamline design, angular lines and geometric forms. The design is more seamless, plain and simple. And just like the modern style, it does not make use of ornamentation such as decorative details, mouldings, cornices or carvings. Materials may either be solid wood, laminate or veneers. Colors and finishes for mid century retro kitchen cabinets include light to medium stained woods.
Once they’re there, it will be difficult to resist the temptation of cramming them full with no that space-enhancing details, but as challenged as we are to do it, we should still keep things simple and edit them with extreme care and vigilance.
