Red Oak – Red oak is a species of the oak wood which has a slightly reddish and yellowish undertone to it. Its graining pattern is more pronounced. It is known for its durability and strength. Another advantage of red oak is that it is inexpensive compared to other woods. This type of wood is commonly used for traditional style kitchen cabinets. It is available in a wide range of styles and finishes and is typically used for semi custom, custom made and stock cabinets.
The heirloom finish creates an antiqued appearance using stains, glazing and distressing. Before the finish is applied, the kitchen cabinets are subjected to a distressing technique to give it a timeworn look. Sanding, denting and chiseling the edges and corners give the wooden cabinets imperfections. Glaze is then applied to accentuate the details of the door. To create a more rustic and aged appearance, more imperfections may be added.
